WHY VOLUNTEER?

Volunteering is a very rewarding experience. You can do things that you enjoy while making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. We asked our volunteers to tell us what they liked about volunteering:

  • Seniors can be great mentors to us, we can learn a lot from their experience. They are very knowledgeable and like to tell their stories to others.
  • A smile or a simple gesture can go a long way. When a resident smiles it makes me smile too!
  • I recently retired and volunteering helps me stay involved in the community.
  • I started coming here because I needed volunteer hours for school, now I come because I like it!
  • Meeting the great diversity of residents is always fun and highly interesting.
  • Being appreciated by the residents is a great source of pride for me.
  • I enjoy working with excellent staff; they make me feel very comfortable.
  • I didn’t know anything about the Jewish culture and am enjoying learning about it.
  • The best part for me is seeing residents with dementia participating and enjoying themselves in the music programs. It is a challenge to light that spark!
  • It has been a really rewarding experience for me learning how to get along well with the elderly, what to do when they need help, and how to react in certain situations.
  • I knew that I was interested in studying nursing after high school; my volunteer experience has really confirmed my choice of a future career.
  • I’m a student from overseas, I came here to improve my English, and I feel like I’m visiting with family whenever I come here.
