NURSING SERVICES

Somewhere between the quantifiable reality of science and the softer touch of caring lies the practice of nursing. Although nursing clearly has its roots in caring (the word nurse means to nurture, care for, support) it is at the same time guided by and based in professional standards, theory, research, education and registration/licensure.

Ensuring nurses and nursing staff have access to solid ongoing nursing education, current research and professional counsel to support the achievement of professional standards, is an achievable objective and one to which the leaders at the Louis Brier are strongly committed.

At Louis Brier we are fortunate (some may say even blessed) to find staff who are not only deeply committed to being excellent gerontological nurses and nursing care aides but who are also personally committed to caring, loving and nurturing residents. This personal investment can be recognized in their willingness to deliver good daily care, attend classes to improve their knowledge base, listen to feedback, and reflect an attitude of perseverance and commitment to the facility.

But at its most brilliant it is witnessed in the smiles and jokes staff share with residents casually, their willingness to work with families consistently to seek out the best approach to the care of a resident, and the spontaneous hugs and kisses staff share with residents and families. At its ultimate height caring is expressed in the tears nursing staff shed when a resident dies, takes seriously ill, or expresses their dissatisfaction with living in a long term facility far from their previous home and friends.

Those who know the true wisdom and truth of love and caring recognize that love and caring are not only expressed in the happy days of stable health through laughter and good cheer. Caring, respect and love are expressed at their fullest potential in the sad days of sorrow through the dedication that comes when we say we will not give up but instead we will face the good and the bad together, and together we will continue to strive for the best we can do because we are committed to care and caring.

The nursing staff of Louis Brier and the Weinberg Residence wish to extend our hands toward residents, their families and friends, and restate our commitment to you and our dedication to provide the most caring, kind, compassionate and competent care we can deliver. We look forward to, and appreciate working together to achieve this common and noble goal.
