At our worksite, staff may be assigned to Louis Brier Home and Hospital or to The Weinberg Residence. Employees usually enter our employment as casual/relief workers, and have the opportunity to bid into full-time or regular part-time positions as vacancies occur.

Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the requirements of the following union contracts:

REGISTERED NURSES and LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSES

Do you enjoy the special challenges and satisfactions of nursing within an elder-care environment?

Casual/relief employment is available at LOUIS BRIER HOME AND HOSPITAL and THE WEINBERG RESIDENCE.

You must hold current practicing registration/licensure from the College of Registered Nurses of BC or the BC College of Licensed Practical Nurses, as appropriate. In addition, you should have recent courses in Geriatric Nursing, such as dementia-care. Previous work experience in a chronic-care geriatric facility would be an asset.

Casual opportunities are available on all shifts, with potential to maximize hours to full-time equivalent.

Chaplain

The Louis Brier Home and Hospital and the Weinberg Residence are long term care and Assisted Living facilities committed to meeting the needs of the aging Jewish community.

We are seeking a Chaplain who will develop and maintain a strong chaplaincy and pastoral care program for over 275 residents and their families. The Chaplain will provide spiritual counseling to residents and family members, synagogue and ritual leadership, and staff education. Additionally, the Chaplain will promote Jewish cultural practices and programs. The candidate will preferably have certification in Chaplaincy and/or counseling. Rabbinical ordination and/or a degree in Judaic studies would be definite assets. Candidates will demonstrate an understanding of a broad range of Jewish practices and beliefs and will relate well to clients of varied religious and cultural backgrounds. They must have the skills to work effectively with an interdisciplinary health care team. Consideration will be given to candidates interested in either a full-time or part-time position.

Human Resources Leader

The Louis Brier Home and Hospital and the Weinberg Residence are long term care and Assisted Living facilities committed to meeting the needs of the aging Jewish community.

With a total staff of over 325 employees, the organization is looking for a sole HR practitioner to work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and an outstanding executive leadership team.

Partnering with operational managers, your responsibilities will include the coordination of recruitment/selection and orientation processes, workplace health and safety, claims management, and employee recognition programs. You will also be the primary resource for the provision of collective agreement interpretations, grievance management, providing education to management and staff on HR and general topics, and promoting the consistent application of effective HR practices and policies throughout the organization. Your role will also include coordination of the Accreditation process for the organization.

Candidates should have a related university degree and several years’ related experience as an HR generalist within a unionized environment. Demonstrated  knowledge of HR best practices and an ability to foster a cooperative and positive work environment with all levels of staff are essential for success in this position.  CHRP designation is an asset.

Occupational Therapist

We are a progressive long term care centre with strong rehabilitation services and multidisciplinary teams, serving the needs of over 235 complex care residents.

We are seeking an Occupational Therapist who can think outside the box, has energy, creativity, and excellent communication and collaborative skills.  You will apply your clinical expertise as well as program development and evaluation know-how, to meet the evolving needs of our residents.   You will have the knowledge and confidence to provide supervision and direction to Rehabilitation Assistants as well as mentoring and education to both staff and students. 

You must have current registration or be eligible for registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of BC. Experience in a geriatric environment is essential. Experience with clientele in a community setting would also be an asset.

Assistant Coordinator
Companion Services Program

The Companion Program at the Louis Brier Home and Hospital and the Weinberg Residence serves over 100 of the 275 residents living at the Dr. Irving and Phyliss Snider campus for Jewish Seniors. This independent program serves the residents by responding to individual requests for additional care by matching the needs of the resident with the skills of a Companion.

Reporting to, and working closely with the Coordinator, your duties include gathering information about the resident regarding his/her physical and social needs, responding to changes as they occur, scheduling companions according to requests from the resident and the family, and updating the computerized scheduling program.

The successful applicant will have a background in geriatrics, be focused on meeting the needs of both residents and their families, and have exceptional interpersonal and computer skills.

This is a part time contract position with flexible hours. It is a career opportunity that will allow you to demonstrate your leadership and communication skills.
