CULTURE & RECREATION

The Recreation and Music Therapy team have created a wide range of programs that have been designed to restore, remediate and rehabilitate a person’s level of functioning and independence in life activities.  Programs and events have been developed to promote health and wellness as well as to reduce or eliminate the activity limitations that may restrict resident participation in life situations caused by an illness or disabling condition.  Activities and events are planned with specific goals in mind with the intention of supporting independence and maintaining personhood and dignity.

The Recreation Department is composed of a Leader, Recreation Therapists, Recreation Assistants, a Volunteer Coordinator and a part-time Music Therapist.  The Weinberg Residence has a full-time Program Coordinator.  We also have regularly contracted service providers who offer Horticultural Therapy, Art Therapy, Yoga, education sessions, as well as a wide range of musical genre to entertain the residents in the Home.  Options for involvement include small and large group programs, independent leisure activities, one-on-one programming and outings.

The recreation and music therapy team work closely together to ensure that what is offered to residents will support individual needs as well as the needs of the resident community.  Program evaluation is ongoing so that the evolving needs of residents are being addressed, and met.  While we offer the tried and true programs we also strive to offer a wide and ever-changing variety of programming to support the notion that life isn’t static.  At the Louis Brier the resident community is instrumental in guiding the development of all programs, activities and events.

The Louis Brier is committed to the principles of Judaism and the recreation and music therapy team organize celebrations during Jewish Holy Days.  As well, we offer non-Jewish and ecumenical observances so that residents can celebrate their personal practice.

At the Louis Brier we want to promote the concept that living in long term care can be exciting, thought-provoking, stimulating and meaningful.
