User Fees & payment by way of pre-authorized debits
- Each resident is required to pay a portion of the cost of their stay at Louis Brier. The amount charged per day is based on the resident’s income with prescribed rates established by the Ministry of Health for various income levels. Louis Brier is a publicly funded Long Term Care facility & receives significant subsidies to cover our operating costs.
- Residents will receive statements from the Business Office at the start of each month detailing amounts owed
- To achieve administrative efficiency, all new residents to the Louis Brier are required to complete documentation so that the monthly amounts owed are electronically transferred from the resident’s bank account to a Louis Brier bank account on the first business day of each month.
- Additional fees are required for Extended care residents desirous of staying in private or semi-private rooms, other wise residents will be in 4 bed ward.

Comfort Funds
- Each resident is encouraged to maintain a comfort fund to minimize the risk of cash being misplaced / stolen
- Will provide cash to the resident for out of pocket expenses (cab fares, outings etc)
- Residents may charge purchases from the Gift Shop, hairdresser, and podiatrist to their comfort fund.
- Residents will be requested to replenish their Comfort Fund when the balance runs low (a full accounting of monies received & spent can be provided)
- Any balances in comfort fund at the time of death are returned to the estate
- Overdraft balances of the Comfort Fund are not permitted
- Residents may choose to open a bank account with the Bank on Montreal across the street.

Telephones
- A pay telephone is located by the main entrance at Louis Brier.
- Residents and/or family may make arrangements with our general office for the installation of a private telephone.
- We recommend that telephones have large, easy-to-see numbers.

Mail
- Mail is delivered daily by volunteers , and mail for residents should be addressed as follows:

Resident's Name
LOUIS BRIER HOME AND HOSPITAL
Room Number, 1055 West 41st Avenue
Vancouver, BC V6M 1W9

- Newspaper and magazine subscriptions are the responsibility of the resident and his/her family.

Visiting Hours
- Family and friends are invited to visit residents within the preferred hours from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm daily.
- Well-trained, house broken pets are welcome for short visits.

Personal Effects - Valuables and Cash
We encourage residents to leave important documents, expensive jewelry, and valuables in a safety deposit box in a bank, or with relatives for safe keeping. Residents and their families should insure the resident's valuables. The Louis Brier will not be responsible for theft, loss and damage.

We advise residents to keep only very limited amounts of cash in their rooms. Cashing of personal cheques should be done at the bank by the resident or the family. Our business office staff will assist under exceptional circumstances.
