THE BUSINESS OFFICE
- is located down the hallway to the left of the receptionist at the main
entrance to the Louis Brier.
- is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
- is closed daily from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm & on all statutory holidays,
and for all Jewish High Holy days.

User Fees & payment by way of pre-authorized debits
- Each resident is required to pay a portion of the cost of their stay
at Louis Brier. The amount charged per day is based on the resident’s
income with prescribed rates established by the Ministry of Health for
various income levels. Louis Brier is a publicly funded Long Term Care
facility & receives significant subsidies to cover our operating costs.
- Residents will receive statements from the Business Office at the start
of each month detailing amounts owed
- To achieve administrative efficiency, all new residents to the Louis
Brier are required to complete documentation so that the monthly amounts
owed are electronically transferred from the resident’s bank account
to a Louis Brier bank account on the first business day of each month.
- Additional fees are required for Extended care residents desirous of
staying in private or semi-private rooms, other wise residents will be
in 4 bed ward.
Comfort Funds
- Each resident is encouraged to maintain a comfort fund to minimize the
risk of cash being misplaced / stolen
- Will provide cash to the resident for out of pocket expenses (cab fares,
outings etc)
- Residents may charge purchases from the Gift Shop, hairdresser, and
podiatrist to their comfort fund.
- Residents will be requested to replenish their Comfort Fund when the
balance runs low (a full accounting of monies received & spent can
be provided)
- Any balances in comfort fund at the time of death are returned to the
estate
- Overdraft balances of the Comfort Fund are not permitted
- Residents may choose to open a bank account with the Bank on Montreal
across the street.
Receptionists
- The Louis Brier reception desk is open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday to Friday and 10:00 am to 6:30 pm Saturday, Sunday and Holidays
Telephones
- A pay telephone is located by the main entrance at Louis Brier.
- Residents and/or family may make arrangements with our general office for the
installation of a private telephone.
- We recommend that telephones have large, easy-to-see numbers.
Mail
- Mail is delivered daily by volunteers , and mail for residents should
be addressed as follows:

- Newspaper and magazine subscriptions are the responsibility of the
resident and his/her family.
Visiting Hours
- Family and friends are invited to visit residents within the preferred
hours from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm daily.
- Well-trained, house broken pets are welcome for short visits.
Personal Effects - Valuables and Cash
We encourage residents to leave important documents, expensive jewelry,
and valuables in a safety deposit box in a bank, or with relatives for
safe keeping. Residents and their families should insure the resident's
valuables. The Louis Brier will not be responsible for theft,
loss and damage. We advise residents to keep only very limited amounts of cash in their
rooms. Cashing of personal cheques should be done at the bank by the resident
or the family. Our business office staff will assist under exceptional
circumstances. |
